The manufacturer finishes these frames with imitation finishes. These range from paint, stain, paper with photographed wood grain, colored gold foil to other techniques that make the frame look hand crafted, thus the term "Faux or Fake Finish"!
Now, let's discuss wood frames. Yes, others offer you wood frames that are finished in paint, stain or artificial foils to give a gold or silver leaf appearance. Theses wood frames are a big step above the composite frame. However, they cannot be compared to ours.
Old World Craftsmanship
The frames from Great Art Buys are made in Italy by a family business that is many generations old. Every frame is made from quality kiln dried woods. We do not use faux or imitation surfaces. If we tell you we have a Cherry Frame, it is made from a premium Cherry Veneer. If we tell you we have a Gold Leaf Frame, it is 12 or 14k Gold or Silver Leaf. Likewise our Burl Wood Frames are just that…real Burl Wood.
