MICHAEL LARSON

I was born an artist. I first realized I was an artist at about age of 5, when people were amazed that I outgrew stick people and discovered the human body shape. By the time I was in high school in the late 70's strangers were offering to buy my paintings for hundreds of dollars. In college I gravitated to painting until I discovered fine art photography in 1982.

My First Photography class instructor, Mr. Al Carter, is a true master of photography. He was a mentor and friend of Ansel Adams. His office was full of Adams originals. They had a tradition of exchanging and critiquing each other's work. Mr. Carter had a significant influence over my interest in fine art photography.

I've enjoyed the outdoors and backpacking since I was a young man. Naturally, my images tend to be wilderness related. I also enjoy photographing people. I started a portrait photography business in addition to my fine art photography work in 1994.

Today my greatest teacher is experience itself. My portrait and fine art photography skills enhance each other. I continue to experiment with new technologies, locations, and lighting techniques.

I struggled with writing this bio because I want you, the art viewers, to simply value my artwork on its own merits. Not for what you may, or may not see in this bio. Please, let my work be my representation, history, and credentials. If it speaks to you - YAHOO! If not, that's OK too. Enjoy.
